How do you keep yourself up when life gets you down? When life gets hard you have a choice. You can get pulled down by the weight of life’s challenges - or you can overcome what is in front of you.


There are many ways to keep your spirits up even during bad times. Taking care of your physical, mental, and spiritual health in all aspects give you the best ability to have

Practice Self-Care

Self-care can keep you feeling good and well in good times, and bad. Self-care is any activity or practice that enhances and protects our well-being, including physical, emotional, and mental health. Certain activities are common self-care practices.


This means taking care of yourself so that you are healthy physically, and mentally. Self-care can look very different for each individual but some common self-care activities are listed below.


Self-Care Tips To Keep You Feeling Good:

  • Journaling - Writing out your feelings is a great outlet

  • Take a hot bath to relax

  • Spirituality practices

  • Listen to calming music

  • Meditate or do yoga

  • Go on a hike or get some fresh air

  • Cut down on screen time & negative news stories


Focus On The Best Part

Stop dwelling on the worst parts of life or the annoying parts. Really. No matter how small. Focus on what’s good in your day. Maybe it’s time with family or pets. Maybe it’s time to relax and watch your favorite show, work on a project, or write. Taking time to appreciate whatever small thing is good in your life does amazing things for your mental health.


Mix Up Your Routine

A change of scenery and routine from time to time is life changing. Getting some new views and changing up the routine is great for your mental health and even your physical health. This can lift your mood, elevate your perspective, and keep life feeling fresh instead of heavy.


Get Off Your Own Back

Cut yourself some slack when life is bad. Acknowledge your effort and hard word living life. If you need to make some changes, make a plan, and start working on change. Instead of belittling yourself acknowledge what you have done so far.


Find A Creative Outlet

Find your outlet. Expressing yourself is a therapeutic way to keep your spirits up when life is tough. Make art. Paint, write, try out a sport. Whatever you are passionate about that gets you away from dwelling on negativity.


What Part Can You Control?

Ask yourself if what is bugging you is something that you have any control over? Many thing in life are simply beyond our control. Focus on using your energy on aspects of life that you can control which of course includes yourself, your attitude, feelings, mindset, and your behaviors. Let the stuff that you have no power over go. Make plans for aspects of life that you do have power over. It’s as simple as that.


Connect

Share your experience and struggles with friends, family, or supporters. Sharing highs, lows, successes, and failures are a great way to gain support, and comradery during tough times in life.


Learn From Life

Learn from life. Study your victories and your defeats. Use what you learn to help you do better next time. You will also start to better understand yourself and develop your self-awareness.


Life is inevitably tough, gritty, and real. We can break at the weight of life’s challenges, or we can get tough, learn lessons, be thankful for the good, and move forward. Keep your head up during hard times. Come out the other side wiser and stronger.
